The Industry Standard for Professional Avy Work

An absolute bomber of a shovel, and the first to bring TIG welded shaft connector to avy work. I have had my original D-handle for 22 years, and the blade is still going strong. My original red shovel has been relegated to the car as a daily user merely as a precautionary measure, my new true-blue friend has been joining me on the hills this season. Same great build strength, attention to detail, and good looks to boot. I have always loved the AviTech line for planing straight pit sides, tap tests, and even shaving a kicker or cornice entrance or two. While it may be a bit on the heavy side compared to the go-faster shovels that have always been available as a comparison point, this is one piece of gear for which I am unwilling to compromise efficacy for light weight.

Wide mouth

We like having a variety of shovels in our party. I really like the combination of the t-grip with the wide mouth for clearing broken snow

like new, like old: awesome

Those familiar with the older similar shovel that was red: this one is a new version that is super similar. Just redone and in a slightly more lovable colour. The blade is sturdy and you'd feel confident bashing through melt freeze snow without damaging the blade. So far from use I haven't had any problems for build quality.
The grip fabric on the shaft does tend to get a little snow caught on it during use if you're near zero degrees (or solar pit above -5c). But it's manageable and minimal. If you're really concerned about moisture in your bag that might be annoying and you could cut it off.
